Top 5 Wednesday: Book-Inspired Classes

September 6, 2017

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly book meme brought by T5W on Goodreads.

Happy Wednesday! Today is a bit of a two-fer, because in addition to it being a Top 5 Wednesday, it is also National Read A Book Day. (Read my post about how to celebrate National Read A Book Day 2017 here.)

In honor of it being back-to-school time, today's topic is classes inspired by books. Think "Yer a Wizard 101: How to Defeat A Dark Lord in 7 Books or Less" but not based on Harry Potter, because that's too easy.

Here are five classes I'd love to take (or teach!):

1. Ladies Leave Your Man At Home: Stories About Badass Women & Female Friendship

For fans of female-centric stories of adventure and mayhem. In this class, you'll get it all. You'll read books like Anne of Green GablesFangirl, The Girls, And I Darken and Graceling.

2. I Hate You--No, Wait, I Love You: A Survey in Hate-to-Love Romances

Love the enemies-to-lovers trope? Say no more. In this survey, dive into such books as The Wrath and the Dawn, Pride and Prejudice, and the Shatter Me series.

3. You & Me Against the Patriarchy (and the Zombies): Senior Seminar

No, this isn't a review of The Walking Dead. In this senior seminar, we'll discuss what happens when women get to tell the story. Readings include the Razorland and  Born series.

4. And They Lived Happily Ever After...Again: Fairy Tales & The Power of Retelling The Story

We think we know how those old stories go...but do we? What happens when fairy tales are rewritten for a new age and a new audience, from a brand new voice. Readings include The Wrath and The DawnCruel Beauty, Hunted, and Wicked.

5. I'm In Love With A Demon: A Course in Forbidden Loves

For fans of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, this class will cover romances between demons and...whoever falls in love with them. Angels? Sure! Humans? Why not? Course readings include Daughter of Smoke & Bone, the Sweet series, and The Coldest Girl in Coldtown

What do you think? Would you want to take any of these classes? What would you add to the syllabus? Let me know!
