Top 5 Wednesday: Top of my TBR

January 24, 2019

This weekly book meme is brought by Top 5 Wednesday on Goodreads.

Happy Wednesday, everybody! Today we're talking about one of my least favorite topics--TBRs!

Why is this one of my least favorite topics? Largely because I've determined that I am basically a mood reader trying to pretend that I'm not by creating TBR posts as if they mean anything.

But y'all--it's a new year. Will it be a new me? Maybe so, because I've created a "Next Up" shelf on my Goodreads that includes NINE BOOKS: four (4) ARCs and five (5) owned books.

Today's Top 5 Wednesday focuses on those owned books! Here we go:

I actually featured To Kill A Kingdom on my Top Ten Tuesday on 2018 book releases I meant to read but haven't yet. I received this one from my super awesome OTSP Secret Sister a few months ago, and I'm trying to not pay attention to all the hype, but I'm so stoked to read this one.

I ended up putting Crooked Kingdom off for a minute because I got a little spoiled on it. And by a little I literally mean a small amount, but it was enough of a hint to make me pause. I know I'll want to read King of Scars as soon as it's released, though, and enough time has passed for me to have mostly forgotten whatever it is I thought I found out, so I'm attacking this one ASAP.

This is one I preordered and have just literally languishing on my bookshelf. I can see it from where I sit, typing out this post. I think this one will be a fun read to get me in the mood before (or just after!) diving into King of Scars

I received City of Brass as a Christmas present, and I was so so excited! I'd heard (and continue to hear) such great things about the world building, plotting, characters (and it's a great time to read it, because if I love it, I can go straight to the second).

My OTSP Secret Sister also gifted me A Reaper at the Gates because she saw I binged the first two in the An Ember in the Ashes series. I took a pause because that second one...man, I left it a little wrecked. But I think it's time to go ahead and dive back in!

Now, I freely acknowledge that all five of these books fall into the fantasy realm, not leaving a lot of room for mood reading. HOWEVER, I sort of planned for this, and the ARCs that are on the list at this time are contemporary and historical romances (and, okay, one fantasy). So I will definitely, at least in theory, have the ability to pivot through my favorite genres while still tackling my self-imposed TBR.

Will it work? That's another question entirely. I'll be sure to let you know!

In the meanwhile, what do you think about this TBR?
